Prime example, I questioned the dr on my mothers medications and why she was on certain ones. Mind you, I called left a message so he would have had ample time to review her chart and answer my questions.
Hmmm yet you are suppose to be caring for her. She went through a 2 month spell where she was having severe memory loss and hallucinations, when I questioned it I was told maybe the cancer was going to her brain…mind you she just had a PET scan that was clear a week prior. Then the dr proceeded to tell me if the cancer doesnt get her the COPD will.
After arguing demanded a full work up…turns out she had a UTI! After medicine she was back to herself. Most of the aids are useless..
The nurses are short staffed and overworked. Once when I was there we rang her buzzer and it took 25 minutes for anybody to come. While attending my fathers funeral, someone came in her room and stole money, and jewelry. Susan the administrator was useless. The social worker is a gossip and a kiss butt to the administration.
They changed the cable and it took a PHd to figure out how to use it. Yes, I called the corporate office in North Hills and complained. That was a waste of a call. They were getting my mothers entire social security so they could care less. Finally, when my mother got sick and couldnt breath it took 20min for a nurse to come to her room and call an ambulance.
Unfortunately my mother passed away 3 days later. One more note…i called the home on a Friday the afternoon that she passed , explained I would be there Sunday to clean her room and get her belongings. Susan had the nerve to have a nurse call me that Sunday morning and ask when I was coming.. She is arrogant, rude and has no place in that position.
My mother was a paycheck to them not a person. I called the social worker to ask if she knew any available options to help me pay for the funeral since my mom had nothing, her suggestion was i could donate her body to the state and they would return her ashes to me.
All I say is beware of this place…they act like all patients are family but they are not. I wish they would have told me that when they called telling me that she was being taken to the hospital so I could have made other arrangements for her care.
Fortunately we were able to find another facility that would take her and she was treated with kindness and compassion. My mom has been at Kane Ross Nursing Home for about six weeks now. I gave it a rating of four. If it … read more. If it were a brand new facility, I would have given it a five.

The staff there treat you and your family member with dignity and respect. They facilities look and smell clean. They are also offer a variety of fun activities for the residents such as, Bowling, Prize bingo, Board and card games and movie nights. There is always staff on hand to answer a phone call day or night.
Most of the staff can answer of most medically concerned questions about your loved one and are very supportive of the concerned family members as well. There are may positives to Highland Park care. There are also some negatives about Highland Park Care Center.
As in most places that care for the elderly, not all of the people are as honest as they may appear. There were problems with missing money and clothing mix-ups after their clothes are laundered. Other than theft of money and clothing mix-ups it is still a good care facility. And I would still recommend it. As far as first impression, it was great. They got a really nice lobby and a courtyard outside. It was nice as far as the look. The rooms were kept very c … read more.
The rooms were kept very clean. Every day, they just come in and clean up; they do a good job at cleanliness. As far as the staff, some were great, and some were not. My sister did not like the food. The meals probably for her were just not adequate, but it was a very secure place for her.

Instead of saying they will keep a closer watch on him, she said they will lower the bed and give him the nurse bell. He fell again so I talked to another staff member Ms. Maryland Mur-lynn and she was outright rude. So unprofessional and disrespectful.
If I could give zero stars I would. My brother due to health insurance was in this facility for over 2 years. Very rarely was there a caring nurse. If you have a loved one in this facility you MUST be vigilant in getting staff to adequately address their needs. When an aide caught it, my brother was taken by ambulance to mercy Hospital. He died of a lung infection 5 weeks later.
The facility is very clean and the workers are very attentive. They are very good at keeping the family involved and aware of problems. I would recommend them.
My husband is currently in the long- term care unit on the third floor.
